For the first time, the Italian Observatory on Energy Poverty (OIPE) conducted a study for Save the Children on “Children and Energy Poverty”, focusing particularly on families where the reference person does not have Italian citizenship.
Based on our analyses of Istat’s Household Budget Survey, in 2021 just over a quarter of families experiencing energy poverty included at least one child. This amounts to approximately 583,000 families and 950,000 children (10% of the total) living in unhealthy, inadequately heated or cooled, or dimly lit environments.
