For the second consecutive year, Istat, Italy’s national statistics institute, has published a focus on energy poverty in its Annual Report using the measure proposed by OIPE.
Istat:
- Confirms the estimate of 2 million households, 7.7% of the total, experiencing energy poverty;
- Notes a decrease compared to 2021 (–190,000 households in energy poverty), largely thanks to transfers aimed at reducing high energy costs;
- Highlights that, despite this overall reduction, energy poverty is increasing among households with children (10.2% in energy poverty) and among those where the reference person is a foreign national (18.1%);
- OIPE provides the code (for R and STATA) for computing the indicator and conducting analyses [here]
